My Elms

Postby Lucky » Sun Jul 19, 2009 8:24 pm

I bought this elm a little while ago and since this photo it has grown much taller. It is still just a stick in a pot but it will get there eventually.

The finished Elm I am kind of disappointed with. I had ordered this tree in hopes of it being more of a pre bonsai as the images on the site were a little misleading. Its still a decent tree but I did not do this tree. I do hope I can some how develop a branch on the lower left side instead of the branch swinging around from the right side.
I still need to repot this into better soil. Right now it is in the soil it was delivered in. It seems to be normal old potting soil.

Again a new picture of each of these trees.

First is the Elm stick in a pot that is probably being over watered. The other one is a finished Chinese Elm.

The finished Elm was dropping a ton of leafs and producing a few in replacement, and those were even turning brown and dropping. So I moved it outside because I could not keep up with the mess it was making. Well anyway it happened to be a cold streak we were on at that time and the night time temps were in the 40F. Finally all of the leafs fell off and I brought it back inside.

Its been about a week now since I moved it back inside and under my light stand and there is new buds popping.

I am still waiting until spring time to re pot this thing.
Here is a picture of this Elm.

wow that tree has some nice movement in the lower half ------ i wonder if you should cut the top third or half off and see what develops from there Charlie (orchids)

I think this tree is dead. I have kept it around just in case. I should have repotted it when I got it. The soil is horrible bonsai soil for coming from a bonsai dealer online. I wanted to wait until this spring to repot but like I said I think this tree is dead.

I did initially think that exact thing. Cut the top off and see what happens with the bottom.
